The Department of Classical Studies at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a three year, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor instructional position that will begin August 10, 2026. This full-time teaching faculty appointment carries a service component commensurate with rank and comes with the possibility of ongoing renewals and a framework for promotion per the Teaching Faculty Framework.
We seek an individual with expertise in ancient Greek and Latin literature that complements the existing strengths of the department, with demonstrated ability to teach ancient Greek and Latin in the original languages at all undergraduate levels and to offer courses on ancient culture and literature in translation. We also seek candidates able to teach writing-intensive courses and to contribute to W&M’s required general education curriculum at multiple levels. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Greek, Latin, Classical Philology, Classical Studies, or Classics or ABD is preferred at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2026). Previous teaching experience is preferred.
