Annually since 1984, the SCS (formerly APA) has sent a postdoctoral fellow to Munich to learn lexicography and contribute to the venerable and indispensable Thesaurus linguae Latinae. After the NEH terminated their grant in the spring, the SCS Board honored their commitment to the then Fellow and her successor from the Society’s own funds, a most impressive gesture. The Friends of the Thesaurus linguae Latinae, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded to support the TLL, then launched an appeal via the SCS to raise funds for the next two Fellowships, spurred on by a generous 3:1 matching grant from the Biggs Family Charitable Foundation. With magnificent support from members of the SCS, within two months the Fellowship for 2026–27 was secured. Fundraising is now under way for the Fellowship for 2027–28. Please browse the Friends’ website, including podcasts, testimonials from former Fellows, and a fascinating article by the current Fellow, Richard Rush, explaining why AI can’t write TLL articles.

After that, having enjoyed browsing, please donate online or by making out a check to Friends of the TLL and mailing it to: Friends of the TLL, P. O. Box 380030, Cambridge, MA 02238. Thank you!
