The Department of Classical Studies at Tulane University has been approved to make a one-year, non-tenure-track appointment at the rank of visiting assistant professor (VAP) with a 3-3 teaching load to begin July 1, 2023. We are seeking a broadly-trained Classicist with the ability to teach Latin at all levels, as well as introductory civilization courses and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Teaching duties for Fall 2023 will include one section of Roman Civilization (CLAS 1010: “The Rise of Rome,” with an enrollment of 70 and a TA, which will count as two courses) and one section of intermediate Latin (LATN 2030). There will be more room for a course of the candidate’s choosing in the spring semester (TBD, see our course list for examples). The VAP will be provided with an office, a computer, moving expenses of $2000, and access to funds for conference attendance. The Ph.D. is required by June 30, 2023.
