Job Summary:

The Department of Classics at Furman University announces a two-year visiting position to begin August 2024. The yearly teaching load is five courses over two semesters.

Job Description:

The department seeks a candidate who values as we do an integrated approach to teaching, collaborative learning, and scholarship. We seek a broadly-trained classicist, especially one with an interest in Roman history, but all candidates must have a thoughtful approach to teaching Greek and Latin, to the rigorous application of technology to humanism, and to engaging the broadest possible community in the study of the ancient world. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with historically underrepresented students, including students of color, and be committed to assisting the university and the department in modeling inclusive excellence. Furman’s Classics department is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and strives to create an anti-racist community through excellence in teaching, mentorship, and programming.

The deadline for application is January 8, 2024. Review of applications will begin immediately. We will conduct initial interviews by videoconference.
