The Department of Historical Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a three-year Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, in Classics. The appointment will begin on July 01, 2024 and end on June 30, 2027.
Candidates must have earned a PhD in Classics or related field by the date of appointment. We seek a candidate whose research complements that represented at the University of Toronto; candidate’s research must focus on an area of Greek or Roman history. As the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in Ancient Greek and/or Latin, they must also demonstrate strong training in one of these languages.
The successful candidate must provide evidence of excellence in both research and teaching. Evidence of excellence in research will be demonstrated by the quality of representative writing samples submitted with the application or publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals, presentations at conferences, the submitted research statement, and strong endorsements by referees.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching experience, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application to include a teaching statement containing a description of pedagogic strategies, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations.
While this position includes no formal graduate appointment or graduate teaching duties, the successful candidate will also be part of the community of the tri-campus Graduate Department of Classics.
