Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor, Classics

The Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (CAMS) of The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor position in Classics, beginning August 2024.

This is a non-tenure-track, 36-week term appointment (two academic semesters), with the possibility of reappointment. We seek candidates who are able to teach general survey courses, such as Greek Civilization and Classical Mythology, as well as Latin and/or Greek language.

Responsibilities will include teaching six courses, three per semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to promote and advance the department's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We especially welcome applications from members of underrepresented communities.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Classics or a relevant field in hand at the time of appointment, teaching experience, and evidence of high quality in teaching.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

To be considered for this position, applications must be submitted electronically and include a formal letter of application detailing relevant qualifications for this job, a current curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching excellence, and contact information for three references.

System limitations allow for a total of 5 documents (5mb per document) as part of your application. Please combine materials to meet the 5-document limit.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Questions about the position may be directed to the Head of the CAMS Department, Dr. Tawny Holm (tholm@psu.edu).
