The Department of Classical Studies at Tufts University is seeking applicants for a part-time Lecturer to teach an undergraduate/graduate level Introduction to Quantitative Textual Analysis course fall 2024 (Mondays 6:00-8:30 PM).
The course introduces Textual Data Analysis theory, methods, and technology for applications in the humanities in past and present settings. Topics include corpus design and analysis, basic probability theory, hypothesis testing, stylistics, and sociolinguistics, working with diachronic text data and methods for visualization. Includes extensive laboratory exercises to apply concepts presented in the lectures using the R programming language. Assignments concentrate on applying concepts covered in lectures and exercises along with a final project that applies textual data analysis to each student’s field of interest.
Qualifications
Candidates should have an MA or PhD in the Humanities and have a relevant track record in the Digital Humanities. Candidates must show evidence of successful teaching. Priority will be given to candidates with experience working with Greek and/or Latin. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with traditionally underrepresented students, including students of color, and advance in their teaching Tufts University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
